The customised GETEC energy solution
Modern and efficient energy supply concept for the chemical industry.
The challenge
The existing supply of power to the plant using thermal oil and steam no longer met current demands and efficiency criteria. A new supply concept was to be developed to ensure the future security of supply.
The goal
The vent gas produced on site in the storage tanks should also be utilised as an energy source and thus used efficiently and in an environmentally-friendly fashion instead of being discarded in thermal post-combustion as was previously the case.
Our solution
GETEC developed a highly efficient, sustainable and economical supply concept that supplies the entire production site in Speyer with thermal oil and steam. The GETEC engineers opted to use two thermal oil boilers fired with natural gas and a steam generator indirectly heated with thermal oil. What makes this procedure so special The vent gas that accumulates during the production is thermally utilised in the system.
Facts and Figures
CO2 savings
approx. 2,800 t/a
Components
2 natural gas fired thermal oil boilers
1 indirect steam generator
Supply
Thermal oil with a flow temperature of 340°C
Saturated steam with a pressure of 23 bar (above atmospheric) and a temperature of approx. 222°C
Installed capacity
Nominal heat output of the thermal oil boiler: 8,300 kWth each
Steam output of indirect steam generator: 13 t/h

UELZENA eG (Uelzen)
The Uelzena Group is a leading food and milk processing provider. Aside from the manufacture of butter and butterfat at the Uelzen production site, the customers’ own products are spray dried by means of high-pressure steam.
The customised GETEC energy solution
Modern and efficient energy supply concept for the dairy industry.
The challenge
Upgrade of the existing boiler house that supplies steam for the dairy, under continuous operation and without interruption.
The goal
The coverage of the high requirements for heat and power at the Uelzen location was to be realised in an economically viable fashion as compared to the separate generation of heat in the existing boiler system as well as compared to the external acquisition of power. At the same time, it was essential to minimise the risks associated with the transition toward renewable energies, such as grid fluctuations and total loss of power.
Our solution
GETEC set up a cogeneration power plant with two CHP units and a waste heat recovery boiler. The system is completed with the new construction of two natural gas boilers (shell boiler), which replace two outdated existing boilers. In addition, GETEC is supporting Uelzena’s power supply by implementing a smart load management system.
Facts and Figures
CO2 savings
5,050 t/a
CHP
4,420 kWth, electrical output: 4,290 kW, energy source: natural gas
Supply
High-pressure steam, heat, power
Steam generation plant
3 x 11 MWth, steam pressure: 18 barabove atmospheric, energy source: natural gas
The GETEC energy specialists delved into the production processes of Uelzena and created power engineering that matches the company and is in unison with the production.

Radici Chimica Deutschland GmbH
Radici Chimica Deutschland GmbH, a chemical company belonging to the Italian Radici Group, produces over 100,000 tonnes of adipic acid per year in the Zeitz Chemical Park. The white powder is the raw material for the production of nylon and other plastics, which, for example, are used in the automotive and clothing industries.
The customised GETEC energy solution
Modern and efficient energy supply concept for the chemical industry.
The challenge
Because the previous steam supply from the power station Mumsdorf was shut down in the summer of 2013, the management of the chemical company was looking for a viable, ultra-efficient and economical energy supply.
The goal
In the context of the supply concept, the idea was to also destroy the climate-damaging nitrous oxide (N2O) that accumulates on site, thereby lowering the greenhouse gas emission.
Our solution
GETEC opted to install two separate shell boilers. One is fired with particularly economical brown coal dust, whilst the other is fired with natural gas.
Facts and Figures
CO2 savings
approximately 100,000 tons of CO2 equivalents per year
Plant
Combined heat and power station with 2 steam boilers and back pressure steam turbine
Supply
Steam, electricity
Installed capacity
Thermal output: 37.1 MW;
Electrical output: 681 kW
We would never have dared to imagine that the problem with nitrous oxide can be resolved with pulverised lignite firing. […] This helps Radici achieve major savings in emissions trading, close to a million euros each year.

Medical Centre Wahrendorff
The head office of the medical centres is located approx. 20 km east of the state capital Hanover in Sehnde, along with the two locations Ilten and Köthenwald. The medical centres provide outpatient, semi-inpatient and inpatient care in emergency psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy. The entire medical centre has 310 hospital beds and 253 spaces for semi-inpatient care. Personalised and high-quality professional care is delivered to more than 1,060 residents in the different areas of the care home.
The customised GETEC energy solution
The challenge
Supply of the medical centre with heat for space heating, ventilation, hot water as well as electricity, if necessary, produced with state-of-the art, efficient energy generation systems.
The goal
Development of a sustainable heat and energy supply concept for all areas of the medical centre
Our solution
The various buildings are supplied by means of a total of 32 natural gas-based and/or HEL-based heat generation systems.
GETEC set up among other things two CHP units with an electrical output of 140 kW each in the Juliane Wahrendorff medical centre in Ilten as well as in the care home in Köthenwald.
The heat generated in the CHP units is used to supply the base load (heat); the generated electricity is fed into the medium voltage systems of the medical centres Ilten and Köthenwald. The refurbishment and expansion of the local heating network at the same time created combined heat supply systems, which make it possible to switch off heat generation units, thereby optimising the operational life of the CHP units. In the context of their refurbishment in 2015/2016, all heat generation systems were switched to energy-efficient condensing boiler technology.
Facts and Figures
Plant
32 heat generation systems with a total output of 7.4 MW as well as 2 CHP units.
Supply
Heat generation system: Heat for space heating, ventilation and hot water
CHP unit: Heat and electricity
