Radici Chimica Deutschland GmbH
Radici Chimica Deutschland GmbH, a chemical company belonging to the Italian Radici Group, produces over 100,000 tonnes of adipic acid per year in the Zeitz Chemical Park. The white powder is the raw material for the production of nylon and other plastics, which, for example, are used in the automotive and clothing industries.
The customised GETEC energy solution
Modern and efficient energy supply concept for the chemical industry.
The challenge
Because the previous steam supply from the power station Mumsdorf was shut down in the summer of 2013, the management of the chemical company was looking for a viable, ultra-efficient and economical energy supply.
The goal
In the context of the supply concept, the idea was to also destroy the climate-damaging nitrous oxide (N2O) that accumulates on site, thereby lowering the greenhouse gas emission.
Our solution
GETEC opted to install two separate shell boilers. One is fired with particularly economical brown coal dust, whilst the other is fired with natural gas.
Facts and Figures
CO2 savings
approximately 100,000 tons of CO2 equivalents per year
Plant
Combined heat and power station with 2 steam boilers and back pressure steam turbine
Supply
Steam, electricity
Installed capacity
Thermal output: 37.1 MW;
Electrical output: 681 kW
We would never have dared to imagine that the problem with nitrous oxide can be resolved with pulverised lignite firing. […] This helps Radici achieve major savings in emissions trading, close to a million euros each year.

Berlin Exhibition Grounds
Messe Berlin with its fair grounds comprising nearly 550,000 m2 of floor space, 170,000 m2 of hall space (26 halls) and the International Congress Centre (ICC) Berlin is a crucial economic factor for the German capital and is among the ten top-selling trade fair corporations in the world.
The customised GETEC energy solution
The challenge
The energy costs associated with annual heat requirements of approx. 60 million kWh and power requirements of approx. 37 million kWh as well as the associated CO2 emissions represent a significant locational factor. GETEC was asked to develop a cost-efficient and sustainable solution.
The goal
Therefore, Messe Berlin’s goal was to lower the energy costs and the CO2 emissions.
Our solution
Energy savings performance contracting and innovative plant engineering enabled GETEC to lower the energy consumption of Messe Berlin by approximately 30%. This saves approx. 10,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
Facts and Figures
CO2 savings
approx. 3,000 to 4,000 tons per year by means of a wood pellet boiler
Plant
Boiler system, pellet boiler unit, CHP unit, cooling system

UNESCO world heritage site housing estate "Weiße Stadt" in Berlin-Reinickendorf
The successful transition toward renewable energies is a collaborative effort. GETEC in cooperation with real estate companies has been developing successful energy efficiency initiatives since 2013. The foundation was laid with Deutsche Wohnen SE and the milestone project “Weiße Stadt [White City]” of the joint energy services company G+D Energiemanagement mbH.
The customised GETEC energy solution
The goal is to generate additional profits with a sustainable and consistent realisation of all possible savings potentials.
The challenge
Supply of approx. 2,500 households with heat / combined heat and power station and district heating network with 31 substations
The goal
Reduction of the primary energy factor of the Weiße Stadt district heating territory from 1.3 to 0.89
Our solution
• Set-up of 2 x 5.8 MW hot water boilers
• Maximum energy efficiency by using economisers in the waste gas stream of the hot water boilers
• Set-up of an ultra-modern CHP unit (1 MWel)
• Feed-in into the public 10 kV grid
Facts and Figures
CO2 savings
Reduction of the emission by 3,800 t/a
Plant

Cargill GmbH, Riesa
Cargill GmbH is a leading producer of vegetable oils made from rape and sunflower seeds. Aside from the manufacture of bottled edible oils, the Riesa location delivers refined vegetable oils to manufacturers of margarine and gourmet foods.
The customised GETEC energy solution
The challenge
In the past, Cargill GmbH in Riesa generated the heat required for the production with a natural gas-fired conventional steam boiler system. The site’s demand for electricity is ensured solely through external procurement from the public grid. The purpose was to devise a new solution, which is at once sustainable and cost-efficient and guarantees greater independence.
The goal
In order to free itself from the political conditions on the energy market, the site in Riesa was on the lookout for a suitable technical solution for generating heat and power that would be cost-effective over the long term and meet the demand situation currently experienced and forecast over the medium term.
Our solution
GETEC set up a combined heat and power generation plant (CHP) on the basis of a multi-modular engine-based cogeneration system (EBCS) as well as a waste heat recovery boiler arranged downstream. The multi-modular design enables the flexible operation of the EBCS, which is adapted to the respective requirements structure. In addition, redundancy of the energy supply is ensured.
Facts and Figures
CO2 savings
CO2 emissions are reduced by 7,000 tons a year.
Plant
2x CHP modules with an electrical capacity of 2 MW each (10.5 kV) and a thermal capacity of 1.2 MW each (low-temperature)
