Climate neutral through GREEN STREAM

PFLEIDERER Teisnach GmbH saves over 27,000 tons of CO2 per year through climate neutral steam supply

The paper manufacturer has commissioned GETEC to plan and install a new climate-neutral energy supply system for its site in Teisnach. In the future, the entire plant of the manufacturer of specialty papers will be supplied with heat from a modern biomass heating plant. Operation of the new energy supply is scheduled to start in July 2022. The new investment will save over 27,000 metric tons of CO2 per year in the future and generate almost climate-neutral steam for production.

The lighthouse project is realized via the GETEC Green Steam - concept. PFLEIDERER SPEZIALPAPIERE is thus taking another major step towards climate-neutral production.

"We are pleased to be able to make an important contribution to the expansion of alternative energies and the energy transition with the implementation of the new power plant concept. With GETEC, we have had the right partner at our side for this for years. Sustainability and climate protection are just as much a part of our self-image as the quality standards of our papers. Overall, this investment underlines our consistent focus on the resource-conserving production of high-quality specialty papers. In conjunction with the development and use of alternative fiber concepts and bio-based barriers, we are creating a basis for the development of particularly sustainable and environmentally friendly packaging solutions," explains Andreas Noack, Managing Director of Pfleiderer Teisnach GmbH & Co. KG.

"We are pleased and very proud to realize this GETEC Green Steam project with our long-standing partner PFLEIDERER SPEZIALPAPIERE. Green Steam enables more sustainability and climate neutrality with very attractive economic efficiency. In total, our customer thus saves the CO2 emissions of 5,000 passenger cars per year. We also took a completely technology-open approach to this project, examined many alternatives in order to selected the best solution together with our customer," explains Thomas Wagner, CEO of the GETEC Group.

With an output of 15 MWth, the biomass heating plant will produce up to 22 metric tons of process steam per hour for the production of high-quality specialty papers. Forest chips and natural waste wood will be used as fuels. The planning and construction as well as the operation and service of the plant will be carried out using GETEC's Green Steam approach. Financing is provided by the company's own contracting shares and by subsidies from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy based on a resolution of the German Bundestag.

PFLEIDERER SPEZIALPAPIERE can look back on 140 years of company history and today produces over 40,000 tons of high-quality specialty papers in Teisnach with around 220 employees.
