Digital Session

GETEC Green Solutions in focus at Handelsblatt Energy Summit

The Handelsblatt Energy Summit is one of the energy policy highlights of the year. Every January, a large number of high-ranking decision-makers from business, politics and society meet there to seek a joint exchange on the most urgent issues of energy and climate policy and the future direction of the energy industry. The two federal ministers Peter Altmaier and Svenja Schulze did the honors, as did the head of the Green Party Annalena Baerbock and corporate giants from EnBW and RWE. As in previous years, GETEC was also present this year with its own themed session. Due to the Corona restrictions, the format was entirely digital.

In his own thematic block "Sustainable and economical energy solutions for industry and the real estate sector", GETEC CEO Thomas Wagner presented the various possibilities of decentralized and sustainable GETEC Green Solutions for the real estate sector and industry to over 60 dialed-in interested participants in an online meeting. Thomas Wagner received prominent support from the COO of Clariant International, Dr. Hans Bohnen, who spoke about a very special joint showcase project.

In his address, Thomas Wagner made it clear that significant efforts in climate protection must already be made today across all sectors if the ambitious climate targets are to be taken seriously. That is why it is crucial to set the course and make the necessary investments today. There are already a large number of innovative and future-proof sustainable energy solutions for industry and the real estate sector that specialists like GETEC can implement economically for their customers. With GETEC Green Steam, GETEC Green Heating and the Quartier der Zukunft concept, Wagner presented not only academic "PowerPoint concepts", but also real solutions that GETEC has already implemented for its customers.

Wagner emphasized that the use of residual materials from production and the greater involvement of the circular economy play an important role, particularly for industrial customers. GETEC also pursued this so-called Waste2Value approach for its customer Clariant in supplying energy to the new Clariant bioethanol plant being built in Podari, Romania. In his address, Clariant COO Dr. Hans Bohnen explained the increasing importance of using high-quality bioethanol produced in a climate-neutral manner and the enormous market potential, particularly in the transport sector. Through its patented Sunliquid technology, Clariant produces bioethanol from agricultural residues such as wheat straw on an industrial scale. GETEC is implementing an innovative CHP plant there at the site, which provides the heat and electricity for the entire production site. For this purpose, GETEC uses lignin as fuel, which is the residual material left over from bioethanol production. The second residual material, vinasse, is also recycled and returned to the fields as biofertilizer. This is doubly innovative and doubly sustainable.
